If it generates more electricity than you consume, you can sell the excess energy back to WAPDA (or the distribution company).
They will pay you for the electricity they buy from you in the form of reduced bills.
All you need to add is a grounding cable, an external switch, and get installed a new type of meter.
The government of Pakistan is promoting investment in the generation of small-scale solar energy systems based on the concept of Net-Metering. Through Net-Metering you reduce the amount you are charged by your Distribution Companies.
Net Metering allows for excess energy produced by your solar system (at a time of low usage) to be exported to the grid, ‘netting off’ for later usage of electricity (at a time of high demand).
As per the guidelines of NEPRA, you need to get:
- your Solar system gets Earthed
- an external switch added to your household
- a bi-directional meter replaces your old Electricity meter
- Make your solar work harder: Net-metering makes your solar system perform at its full potential.
- You can export energy: Electricity consumption in your house is low, excess energy produced from the solar system will be exported to the Grid.
- Monitor your electricity import and export: The bi-directional meter installed indicates your energy usage (Import) and the excess energy produced (Export) on the screen.
- Save money: In two ways:
- Use the electricity you exported back to the grid, later
- If you export more than you import, you can earn cash
